Does London Really Need Another Private Members’ Club?

      October 2, 2026

Does London Really Need Another Private Members’ Club?

Cambridge House is preparing to open its doors in 2027. In a city already filled with private clubs, what will make this one different?

London has no shortage of private members’ clubs.

From institutions that have occupied Mayfair and St James’s for centuries to a new generation combining restaurants, wellness, workspaces and hospitality, membership has become big business.

So does London really need another one?

In 2027, Cambridge House will attempt to prove that it does.

      Introducing Cambridge House

Set within the former Naval and Military Club – better known as the In & Out – on Piccadilly, Cambridge House is one of London’s most anticipated new openings.

The Grade I-listed Georgian mansion dates back to the 18th century and is being restored as part of a new development operated by Auberge Resorts Collection.

Alongside the hotel will sit restaurants, bars, wellness facilities and a private members’ club, bringing one of London’s great historic addresses back into the city’s social scene.

The setting certainly isn’t going to be the problem.

The more interesting question is what happens once everyone arrives.

What Makes a Great Private Members’ Club?

London’s best clubs have never survived on interiors alone.

The building matters. So does the food, service and perhaps increasingly, the wellness offering.

But ultimately, people return because of the people.

A great club manages to create a room you actually want to be in. Somewhere you might bump into an old friend, make an unexpected introduction or simply disappear for a few hours.

That’s considerably harder to manufacture than a beautiful dining room.

As TPO Founder Trevor Kearney puts it:

“I’ve been fortunate to spend time in some extraordinary clubs over the years, and the ones I go back to aren’t necessarily the grandest. They’re the ones with the right people and the right atmosphere. You can spend a fortune creating the perfect room. The people inside it are what make you want to stay.”

So, Does London Need Another One?

      Probably not.

But there is always room for somewhere exceptional.

Cambridge House already has something most new private members’ clubs would struggle to create: history, an extraordinary address and a building people already know.

Whether it becomes one of the places London actually wants to spend its time will come down to something much less tangible.

We’ll be interested to see if it gets that bit right.
