Cotswolds Property: Why International Buyers Are Moving In

      September 24, 2026

Has the Cotswolds Become Britain’s Answer to the Hamptons?

Why one of Britain’s most traditional country addresses is attracting a very international crowd.

Something interesting is happening in the Cotswolds.

The area has hardly been a secret. Beautiful houses, extraordinary countryside and some of the prettiest villages in England have made sure of that.

What’s changed is who’s paying attention.

The Cotswolds is increasingly attracting an international crowd – including some very recognisable names – who could quite genuinely choose to live almost anywhere.

      Why here?

I think the answer goes beyond the houses.

      London, Without London

The Cotswolds offers something increasingly valuable: the ability to step away without feeling disconnected.

London is still accessible. Heathrow isn’t a logistical nightmare. There are excellent schools, restaurants and hotels. Soho Farmhouse and Estelle Manor have brought a different energy to the area.

But you can also disappear behind a long driveway and barely see another person.

      That’s quite a compelling combination.

And it’s perhaps why the comparison with the Hamptons doesn’t feel as ridiculous as it might initially sound.

For New York, the Hamptons became somewhere people could escape the city without leaving their world behind.

The Cotswolds is beginning to play a similar role for London – except its appeal now stretches far beyond Londoners.

      Why the Cotswolds?

For me, one of its greatest advantages is that nobody designed it to be a luxury destination.

The villages are real. The pubs are real. The countryside is protected. Many of the finest houses have been standing for hundreds of years.

Money can buy an extraordinary property.

It’s much harder to buy the world that exists around it.

And perhaps that’s why we’re seeing people who are accustomed to the world’s most obvious luxury destinations choosing somewhere considerably less obvious.

      Privacy matters.

      So does space.

But increasingly, I think people also want somewhere that feels authentic.

      So, Is It Britain’s Hamptons?

      Perhaps.

But I rather hope the comparison only goes so far.

Because the moment the Cotswolds starts trying to become the Hamptons, it loses the very thing that’s making it so attractive.

The interesting story isn’t that famous people are moving there.

It’s that people who could live almost anywhere are choosing somewhere that doesn’t need to impress them.

And that tells you rather a lot about where luxury is heading.
